I have tons of ideas. Back-burner ideas, ideas I’ve tried and ideas I will try.
In this industry there’s little to no risk. It’s very cheap to try out an internet based idea. So, I tend to put the feelers out on lots of different ideas, no reason to put all your eggs in one basket, right :).
Unfortunately, I often abandon a lot of projects because they no longer interest me or they didn’t turn out to be what I wanted and so forth. Although that happens there is still potential and usefulness in some of these ideas to someone that may want to nurture them.
So, I’d like to highlight some of my live projects and their current status (in alphabetical order):
Bryan Hadaway’s Blog
http://bryanhadaway.com/ – Well, this is where we are at right now ;). See no reason why I wouldn’t continue blogging here ’til the day I die :).
calmest_ghostDESIGN
http://calmestghost.com/ – This is my web design website where I offer a large variety of web services. Should be around until I retire. If I’ll ever go the direction of having a team or a company to continue my business doesn’t seem likely, but who knows what lies ahead.
CSS / XHTML Websites
http://css-xhtml-websites.com/ – Because I already have my main design site I don’t really recall this website’s purpose, probably just felt like making it during my XHTML strict obsession. This is a prime example of something I made that really has no importance to myself any longer, but could be valuable to say an up and coming web designer. So this site is definitely up for sale.
FREEWebPlate
http://freewebplate.org/ – One of my most favorite projects. It’s a free and open source standards-compliant website template I created for anyone to use for projects or as a learning tool. I packed in some great all around tips for a good web design too. It’s not going anywhere.
GigDig
http://gigdig.org/ – The initial idea for this was essentially craigslist for only web and computer related stuff. I was a little hesitant to sale this off just because of the high quality domain name, but I’m not doing anything with it and it’s just sitting there. I’m actively looking for a buyer for this project.
GoGoMySpace
http://gogomyspace.com/ – MySpace layouts, graphics etc. A partner and I went in on this project together and we just missed the big MySpace boom. I currently have no more interest in MySpace whatsoever so this project is long abandoned and up for sale to anyone who still is interested in MySpace.
hengine
http://hengine.org/ – This is a essentially a cross between Google and DMOZ with it’s own twist. This service has amazing potential for usefulness and even monetization. It’s actually gotten too popular for me to handle on my own, there are thousands of submissions that I just don’t have the time to review. I have some ideas on the direction it should go. Mostly, I would like to bring investing partners into the project, but I might consider a buyout if the price was large enough and it was going into the right hands (as in someone that cares about people and making something useful).
MySpaceStarterKit
http://myspacestarterkit.com/ – This was aimed at individuals, bands, companies etc to get a professional setup on MySpace. This project is dead, again because I no longer have any interest in MySpace, up for sale to anyone who is.
needmyLOGO
http://needmylogo.com/ – My logo design website. That’s about it, I like it and it’s staying.
TidyThemes
http://tidythemes.com/ – Originally based off of FREEWebPlate, I wanted to make the WordPress version is how it came to be. Instead I went in a bit of a different direction. This one’s here to stay.
I have tons of other projects, here are a few others. We’ll see what I come up with tomorrow and if it is successful or not. Be sure and contact me if you have any interest in any of these projects.
Thanks for reading, Bryan
